Northern Leisure Red Cedar Saunas — Northern Ontario

Name: Gateway Waterfront & Outdoor Living
Price range: $$$

Question 1

What does a sauna cost once it's standing in my yard?

Accepted Answer

The price on this page covers the sauna itself, the Wi-Fi enabled electric heater, the stainless fresh air vent kit and the full accessory set — bucket, ladle, thermometer, 15-minute sand timer, fragrance diffuser and headrests. On top of that: a level base, an electrician for the heater circuit, and either your own assembly or our optional VIP delivery and setup package, which is priced on your shipping distance. We put all of it in one written quote.

Question 2

Can I assemble it myself?

Accepted Answer

Most people can. These are built modularly and prefabricated to fit together — if you're comfortable assembling flat-pack furniture, you can put one up in a day. If you'd rather not, our VIP delivery and setup package covers delivery to the home, transfer onto your base, full assembly, mounting the heater, chimney installation on wood-burning units, an operating walkthrough and cleanup. It's an add-on priced on distance, not included in the sticker price.

Question 3

What electrical do I need?

Accepted Answer

Every model includes a Wi-Fi enabled electric heater — 6 kW on the 6' models and 9 kW on the 8' models. The manufacturer publishes an amperage on only one sheet in the lineup (the 6' Mini Modern Panoramic, at 40 Amp), so rather than guess at the rest we confirm the exact requirement for your chosen model in writing before your electrician quotes. Ask us and we'll get it in your hands.

Question 4

What does it sit on?

Accepted Answer

A level, load-bearing base — a concrete pad, compacted gravel, or a deck rated for the load. Each model has a minimum base size printed on its sheet, and we go through it with you before you pour anything. Worth doing properly: the base is the one part you can't adjust afterwards.

Question 5

Is the 2' porch actually two feet?

Accepted Answer

Honest answer: not on every model. The barrels and cubes sold as "2' porch" print an 18" porch on the manufacturer's own sheets. Only the 8' Modern Cabin with Porch is a genuine 24". We'd rather tell you that now than have you measure it later — and 18" is still enough to get boots and a towel out of the snow, which is the point of it up here.

Question 6

Electric or wood-burning?

Accepted Answer

A Wi-Fi enabled electric heater comes included on every model, and a wood-burning upgrade is available. Electric means you can start it from your phone on the drive up and walk into a hot sauna. Wood means no electrical run to the building and a different experience entirely. Plenty of cottages go wood for exactly that reason — tell us how you'll use it and we'll tell you honestly which fits.

Question 7

How long does it take to get one?

Accepted Answer

They're handcrafted in Canada and built to order, so this is not an off-the-shelf purchase. Lead times move with the season — autumn and early winter are the busy stretch. Ask when you request your quote and we'll give you a real date.

Question 8

What's the warranty?

Accepted Answer

Lifetime Structural and a Lifetime Heater Element guarantee, plus 5 years on the heater, 3 years on the Wi-Fi module and 3 years on components. That heater element coverage is unusual and worth comparing against anything else you're looking at.

Question 9

What size should I get?

Accepted Answer

Count who's realistically in it at once. A 6' Barrel takes 4–6 and is the most sauna for the money. The 6' Cube seats 6–8 on the same 6' footprint if your lot is tight. The 6' Mini Modern Panoramic is the only 2–4 person model — the one for a small cottage lot. Go 8' if you want longer benches and room to lie down.

Question 10

Will it hold up outside through our winters?

Accepted Answer

That's what it's built for. Premium kiln-dried Canadian western red cedar, 2" x 6" wall lumber, heavy duty marine grade aluminum bands on the barrels and a black zinc coated steel roof. Cedar is naturally rot and insect resistant — it's the traditional choice for outdoor saunas for good reason, and a stain upgrade is available if you want to change the look.

Question 11

What's the maintenance like?

Accepted Answer

Very little. Sweep it out, wipe the benches, and keep the stones in reasonable shape. Re-stain the exterior every few years if you've gone that route. There's no water chemistry to manage — which is why plenty of people who already own a hot tub add a sauna rather than a second tub.

Question 12

Why buy a sauna from a dock and hot tub dealer?

Accepted Answer

Because sauna selection north of Muskoka is genuinely thin, and we'd rather you buy one locally from someone who installs it and answers the phone afterwards than order a kit from a warehouse three provinces away. We also publish prices, which almost nobody in this region does.
